That’s not good, I’m glad to see it looks like the pilot got out, hope no one was home. They were flying over my house about 3 days ago.

Very well maintained, but like the Sea King, maybe its time. (not lumping it in with the sea king, the navy considered them to be “10,000 parts flying in close formation”)

I posted a better video of the crash. He ejected, but it looks like his chute didn’t open fully.

Yeah, when my car from the sixties (well maintained) has a bad day w e just roll to a stop and figure it out. not an option in jets from the first half of the cold war.

I don’t see how it would have helped.

Looking at the video I’m wondering if the sudden pull up was in response to some sort of engine failure
. Trade airspeed for altitude in an attempt to loop it back so it would come down over the airfield

Turning back for the field is usually a recipe for death. That’s what happened to the B-17 that crashed last year. If it was engine failure, it would have been better to keep going straight and then punch out. That would have shot the crew straight up and given them more time for the chutes to open. To me, it looks more like a control failure that caused the pitch up and stall. It looks like one of the crew survived, so I’m sure we’ll find out eventually.

Snowbirds confirmed one deceased on Twitter . :(
Through the FB g rapevine it was not the woman I know. Still very sad . Thoughts for those involved.

I was assuming straight ahead was
residential/populated
, which is why I said turn back to get it over the field. Wouldn’t be the first time a pilot deliberately reduced their odds of survival in an attempt to reduce the risk of collateral casualties. Looking at the satellite image of the airport
though if that was the goal they would have banked it right instead of left, so I agree with control failure being more likely.
